The Biodiversity Project

The Biodiversity Project's mission is to advocate for biodiversity by designing and implementing innovative communication strategies that help people make the connection between their well-being and biodiversity, thus building a broad and enduring constituency for biodiversity projection. The V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation supported programs to develop public education messages and communication strategies that have strengthened the outreach of environmental institutions and advocacy groups that work in the field of biodiversity education and conservation.

During this period, the Biodiversity Project conceived and launched the Green Media Toolshed, a media resources co-op for environmental groups. It helped organize the Biodiversity Education Network—a network of environmental education professionals focused on promoting best practices in environmental education to foster biodiversity literacy. The Project also commissioned a major public-opinion research project on sprawl and biodiversity that led to a new communications initiative by the leading national and state smart-growth coalitions.
