Environmental Media Services

Environmental Media Services (EMS) is dedicated to expanding and improving media coverage of environmental and public health issues. A parallel role is to encourage and assist environmental groups of all sizes in expanding their own capacity to bring their issues and information before the public via the media. EMS operates on the premise that in this media-driven age, whoever sets the terms of the debate from the outside, through the media, determines what policymakers will do on the inside. If your issues are not in the media, they essentially do not exist.

With funding from the V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation, EMS has been a primary factor in creating public awareness of such now-headline topics as climate change, urban sprawl/smart growth, toxic chemicals/health, environmental impacts of international financial institutions, the declining health of our oceans and others. Working closely with both individual organizations and coalitions of environmental groups, EMS has in many ways become the "media arm" of the environmental movement.
