The International Center for Conservation Analysis and Planning (ICCAP) aims to bridge the gap between the science of conservation and its practice by establishing a new model for designing solutions to complex conservation problems, all in the context of meeting the needs of a growing human population.
The first two ICCAP projects are related to the United Nations Millennium Development Goal 7 on ensuring environmental sustainability. Working with government and non-government stakeholders in the countries of Papua New Guinea and the Dominican Republic, ICCAP will produce in each country an operational strategy for achieving economic growth that is based on sustainable management of the country's wealth of natural resources. Proof-of-concept demonstration projects will be undertaken in each country.
Launched with funding from the V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation, ICCAP is a program of the Center for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC) at Columbia University, and draws on the conservation expertise of the CERC consortium institutions, Columbia, the American Museum of Natural History, The New York Botanical Garden, the Wildlife Conservation Society and Wildlife Trust.
