The
Sonoran Institute works with communities in Western North America
to conserve and restore their unique natural landscapes, wildlife
and cultural values. The Institute works primarily with local government
officials, community leaders and rural landowners to address the
conservation challenges posed by growth.
This
community-based collaborative work includes working with local residents
in ecologically important communities to create land-use plans and
zoning districts that protect important wildlife habitat and agricultural
lands; providing training to community leaders on the use of innovative
land use planning tools and strategies; disseminating information
on the relationship between economic well-being and the environment;
and providing small grants for collaborative conservation activities.
The
V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation provided operational support for the
Northern Rockies office of the Sonoran Institute to accomplish this
work.
