While our website provides information and links relating to approximately ninety grantees within our various grantmaking categories, it also reflects our grantmaking history, fields of interest, and priorities within the environmental field from the time the Foundation was created in 1991. We are pleased that during this past fifteen-year period the Foundation was able to make grants for environmental purposes of approximately $66 million, grants for use in Greenwood and South Carolina of approximately $9 million, and grants for eye research and other public health and medical causes of approximately $9 million. In addition, the Foundation has future grants committed in these fields of approximately an additional $10 million.

The fifteen-year mark is an appropriate time for the Trustees to undertake a re-assessment of our grantmaking and to consider the possibilities of new fields of interest or changes in priorities in connection with our environmental grantmaking. During 2006 and 2007 we will allocate time and resources to evaluating both our grantmaking strategy and the programs of our many grantees. During this period we will make grantmaking decisions in April 2006 relating to those applicants invited to submit proposals from the November 2005 letter of inquiry process.

However, the Foundation will not have an open letter of inquiry process or a grantmaking round in Fall 2006, except for submissions specifically invited by the Foundation.

This website will be revised periodically during 2006 to update information about the Foundation’s grantmaking history, grantees, and other relevant matters, including information as to the dates of the next letter of inquiry period.

V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation or the initials VKRF.

Grantees should acknowledge a grant from the Foundation in the same manner as acknowledgment is provided to other funders.
