Founded in 1872, Lander University is a state-assisted institution located in Greenwood, South Carolina. Emphasizing the undergraduate liberal arts and selected professional programs, Lander has chosen teaching and learning as its primary mission, by providing a high quality and challenging education for all students admitted to its programs. The V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation has provided grants to Lander for scholarships, equipment and an environmental science research project. To date, 151 V. Kann Rasmussen scholarships have been awarded. Equipment grants have been made several times since 1994, ensuring that Lander faculty and students are able to work with up-to-date scientific and technical equipment. In 1999, the Foundation provided a grant to the university's Environmental Science Program for a long-term study to monitor the water quality in Lake Greenwood.
