Piedmont Technical College, a member of the South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive Education system, provides educational opportunities to individuals from diverse backgrounds and ability levels to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for employment in engineering technology, industrial technology, business, health and public service. Funding from the V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation has been used to expand the Piedmont Education Network (PEN), a distance learning system that uses fiber optic technology. PEN classrooms are located in each of the college's seven county centers and 15 service-area high schools. College enrollment has increased dramatically as the college has used the PEN technology to bring more students into its programs. The high schools have used PEN for Advanced Placement courses taught at the high schools as well as college courses. More than 1,000 of Piedmont's 4,000 curriculum students are taking some of their course work using the PEN system. The Foundation has also provided scholarship aid and funding for purchase of science education equipment. For more information visit: www.ptc.edu |
