The United Way of Greenwood and Abbeville counties seeks to change lives in its communities. It wants to see families with young children nurture them; it wants to see young people achieve success in life; and it wants to see people with disabilities and families in crisis become self-sufficient and stable. It does this by investing in proven human care programs that really make a difference in the lives of the people they serve. For several years, the V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation has provided funds enabling the United Way to provide special support to charitable agencies. Some of these funds help the agencies purchase computers and modernize their operations. Special equipment has been purchased for working with physically and mentally challenged children and adults, as well as materials for day and summer camps, playground equipment, books for young children, and special materials for use with children who have been sexually and physically abused.
