Linking Intergenerational Networks in Communities (LINC), a five-year project in South Carolina, was a partnership of the South Carolina Department of Education, the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Senior Services, the United Way of South Carolina and Clemson University. LINC was organized with the encouragement of The V. Kann Rassmussen Foundation, which provided funding for the first five years for seven South Carolina communities. This project partnered youth with older adults in community service teams. The teams learned and served together to improve the quality of life in their communities. From promoting safety and health projects to developing business enterprises, young and old citizens teamed up to create relationships and friendships through the LINC project. Since the inception of LINC, intergenerational service-learning programs have increased 70% in South Carolina school districts. For more information visit: www.strom.clemson.edu/teams/risl/linc |
