The University of Miami's Department of International Studies has begun a three-pronged program connecting environmental problems to their economic and social causes in Latin American and Caribbean countries. The mission of PRENDE is to undertake interdisciplinary research in a series of countries; to disseminate the results to the relevant policy-makers, professional and civic audiences; and to train professionals who will enhance international research on the environment. The V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation provided funding to launch this effort.
