Redefining Progress develops policies and tools that shift the economy and public policy toward sustainability. The V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation provided funding to the organization to research the economics and equity aspects of climate change. This grant produced two papers that began Redefining Progress's "What's Fair?" in climate change series: "What's Fair? An Equity Framework for Global Climate Change" by former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Eileen Claussen, and "What's Fair? Workers, Investors, and Climate Change" by economists Gary Wolff and Gautam Sethi. This research, and the third paper of the series, "What's Fair? Consumers and Climate Change," set the framework for the Environmental Justice and Climate Change (EJCC) initiative. The EJCC campaign, which also received funding from The V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation, addresses this challenge: Low-income and people of color communities will bear a disproportionate health, social and social burden from the impact of climate change, but are conspicuously absent from the political debate. Therefore, the EJCC has three objectives: to educate vulnerable communities; to increase the participation of vulnerable communities' representatives in the policy dialogue; and to advocate for just climate policies.
